Is Your Vote Safe?

KENNEDY WARNS OF MASSIVE ELECTION FRAUD SCAM IN 2008

RFK Jr. with Sen. Christopher Dodd (D)

RFK Jr. with Sen. Christopher Dodd (D)

*This is a transcript from the September 20th broadcast of Ring of Fire, the weekly Air America radio show hosted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mike Papantonio.

This week, Bobby and Pap outlined many of the tactics already being employed by Republicans to steal this election – and asked why Democrats aren’t doing anything to stop it.

Bobby: “There are about 30 scams the republicans are deliberately using, particularly in the swing states to get democratic voters off the rolls. These scams originate in the so-called Help America Vote Act which was passed after the Florida debacle in the year 2000. It was originally suggested by democrats and republicans but it was passed by a republican congress with a republican senate and a republican president. And instead of reforming what happened in Florida it basically institutionalized all the problems that happened in Florida. And institutionalized a series of impediments that make it very difficult for democrats to register, for democrats to vote and then for democrats to have their vote counted.

“One of these requirements under HAVA is called “the perfect match” and what that does is little known but it is devastating. A quarter of the voters in Colorado have just been removed from the rolls because of this–just this one scam. And what it does is they use a computer system to compare your registration application to all other government records of you in the state. So they’ll look at your social security records, your motor vehicle records and any time you’ve had any interaction with the government and if there is any information on your voter registration that is different than the information on another government record that they find they remove you from the voting rolls.

“For example, if I registered as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and yet my motor vehicle license said Robert Frances Kennedy Jr. I’d be removed from the rolls. If your initial is different, if you leave an initial out, if you leave a “Jr.” out, if you leave a hyphen out in your name. And what they’ve done is a study in New York that said 80% of the errors are errors that were done by state clerks who are taking down this information. And particularly immigrant communities that people tend to vote democratic, people have names…spell Muhammad with an “o” instead of a “u” (crosstalk)

Pap: “Are the democrats suing to stop this?”

Bobby: “No, the democrats are doing nothing to stop it. In New Jersey, which is a swing state, 300,000 voters in New Jersey were just sent letters saying that they are now ineligible to vote. New jersey is nice enough to actually notify them–most states will not even notify them. And New Jersey intends to send out 870,000 letters so that is three quarters of a million people off the voting rolls in a state that could decide this vote by 50,000 votes. And these are democrats that are being pushed off the rolls.

Bobby: “Let me tell you about one other of these scams people should know about. If you’re a newly registered voter–and of course the democrats have done these gigantic registration drives–12 million people on registration–if you’re a new voter you MUST include your license or some other state I.D. when you come to vote. What that means is that if you’re a college kid (and college kids now–they’re sending in absentee ballots–they’re not going to the voting place, they do everything online or they do everything remotely–they don’t dream of going to the precinct house voting on election day and waiting in a long line) so if they send in the absentee ballot and they don’t include a color copy of their license their vote is going to be thrown into a trash can. And none of these people know this because you have had to read the law in order to know it. So there is no notification for when you fill out your registration form, so all of those 12 million people that the democrats have registered: those ballots are going to be just thrown out.

Pap: “And if democrats won’t talk about this how the hell’s anybody gonna know about it? I’m involved with this kind of thing every day–I didn’t know that until you just told me. The media is not talking about it. How in the hell is somebody gonna find this out? It’s just incredible.

Bobby: “Hopefully–Obama is getting 66 million dollars a month–hopefully somebody in the democratic organization is going to pay some attention to this before election day!”

No, They Wouldn’t Dare Steal Another Election…Or Would They?

STEAL BACK YOUR VOTE!

*Will the 2008 election be stolen? You’ve GOT to see this video! (Might as well have a laugh, eh?)

But seriously…they did it in 2000, 2004, and may have a plan for this November, too. So be informed and ready to fight back! Be sure to check out Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s article, “Was the 2004 election Stolen?” and learn how he’s trying to prevent it from happening again in 2008.

Bobby is also working with investigative journalist Greg Palast on a separate voting integrity project called Steal Back Your Vote. RFK Jr. appears in the video with Palast below:

Both of these projects, NoVoterLeftBehind.net (a byproduct of the Democratic party), and StealBackYourVote.org (totally nonpartisan) need your support right now! Please consider making a financial contribution to help fund these very worthwhile efforts.

A Message From Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on Election Fraud

A MESSAGE FROM ROBERT F. KENNEDY, JR.:

Dear Fellow Democrat:

Like many Americans — especially those of us who worked on John Kerry’s presidential campaign — I spent Election Night 2004 wondering how the exit polls, which had overwhelmingly predicted defeat for George W. Bush, got it so wrong.

Baffled — and sick at heart that a President so unpopular and incompetent was heading for a second disastrous term in the Oval Office — I heard the rumors of a Republican campaign to suppress Democratic votes.

And then, painstakingly, page-by-page, with no agenda in mind but finding the truth — the same skills I have employed in my career as an attorney — I began to examine the evidence. What I found shocked me to the core — and by the time I pieced it together in an expose for Rolling Stone magazine, I was convinced beyond all doubt:

The Republican Party mounted a coordinated, criminal campaign to steal the 2004 Presidential election — and it worked.

Now, as another election approaches, you and I need to stand with Democrats for America’s Future (DAF) to make absolutely certain it doesn’t happen again. You can get involved now by supporting us here.

We need to stand up because our country cannot stand for another four years of reckless Republican policies. But most of all, we need to stand together because the integrity of our democracy is at risk.

This is about more — far more — than who wins the next election, as important as that is. If we can’t guarantee the citizens of a democracy that their votes will be counted, every other liberty we hold dear is at risk.

And that, I regret to say, is a guarantee that our nation failed — abysmally — to uphold in 2004. Consider:

Of six million Americans living abroad — a constituency known to vote Democratic — nearly half either never received their ballots or received them too late because the Pentagon shut down a web site that files overseas registrations.

George W. Bush “won” New Mexico by 5,988 votes — but more than 20,000 ballots there weren’t properly tallied.

Nationwide, as many as 1 million ballots were spoiled by faulty voting machines.

You might be wondering how irregularities like that happened all over the country. After all, elections are administered by state officials free of partisan influence, right?

Well, allow me to introduce you to a man named Kenneth Blackwell. He’s the former Republican Secretary of State in Ohio — the state that, as you surely recall, officially tipped the 2004 election to George W. Bush.

As such, Blackwell’s job was to administer an impartial election. But he had another portfolio that year — Ohio chair of the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign.

If that sounds like a conflict of interest, it was. And Blackwell — having earned his stripes as a top Bush-Cheney official during the notorious Florida recount of 2000 — exploited it with relish.

In the run-up to the 2004 elections, Blackwell — known in Ohio as a partisan Republican zealot — allowed 300,000 voters to be expunged from the registration rolls, including almost one in four voters in predominantly Democratic Cleveland.

Blackwell also set up a network of kangaroo courts at which Ohio Republicans challenged Democratic voter registrations — often without giving the voters in question a fair opportunity to stand up for their rights.

The whole affair was so egregious that a federal court declared it unconstitutional — but by that time, much of the work was done. All told, more than 35,000 newly registered voters were challenged. Many were disenfranchised outright, and many more were intimidated.

I could go on. Sadly, though, we can’t reclaim what I am now convinced was the stolen election of 2004 — an election in which the Republican Party implemented a nationwide effort to suppress Democratic votes.

What we can do, though — and must — is work together to make sure every last Democratic vote is counted in 2008. That’s where Democrats for America’s Future comes in.

DAF is mobilizing a nationwide “NoVoterLeftBehind.net” project that will monitor voting on Election Day in 2008. The squad will shine a public spotlight on every last irregularity. Democrats for America’s Future will urge every Democratic candidate not to concede a single race until every last vote is counted.

And from beginning to end — from the voter registration process to Election Day challenges and beyond — DAF will fight every last fight to the very end, insisting that every American is guaranteed a democracy’s most sacred right: their vote.

Here’s the challenge: We have every reason to believe the Republicans are, at this moment, preparing a 2008 vote-suppression effort that will rival, or even exceed, the dirty tricks they pulled in 2004.

Unless DAF is equally active — unless they have the resources to monitor every vote, every precinct, every campaign, every court challenge — the Republicans may very well get away with it again.

That’s why I urge you, in the strongest terms, to rush a generous contribution of $30, $50, $100, $250 or even more to support DAF’s “NoVoterLeftBehind.net”. Your help will ensure that this effort is as aggressive and broad-based as it absolutely must be to succeed.

The 2008 elections are approaching fast — and Democrats can’t win unless our votes are counted. Please help today.

Sincerely,

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

And If You Thought the Indiana Vote Was Wacky…

YOU REALLY SHOULD VISIT TEXAS SOMETIME

This President brought to you by ...

WILL AUSTIN DUMP E-VOTE MACHINES IN `08?

(DON’T HOLD YOUR BREATH)

Here in Austin, Texas, local officials are at least considering dumping those unpopular and unreliable electronic voting machines which have generated so much controversy here, there, and everywhere.

Sounds promising, but…don’t hold your breath, friends.

This brilliant idea might just work (and is working) in other states, other cities…but here in the home of two of the most notorious election-stealin’ presidents in American history (LBJ and our current despot, George W. Bush), that’s a mighty tall order.

You will please pardon my cynicism, but as a longtime Austinite deeply rooted in Texas politics and as a journalist who has been covering this dirty game for nearly two decades, I can only say:

Election reform in Travis County? Surely you jest!

Our illustrious election officials (most of whom are Democrats, btw) have been fudging votes since long before anyone ever heard of E-Slate or electronic voting machines.

We’ve been doing this for a long time. What good Texan could forget how “Landslide Lyndon” Johnson won his Senate seat in 1948? Box 13, anyone?

Fixing elections is hardly a new concept in Texas (or anywhere else, for that matter)…although e-voting certainly makes it much easier to do, and a lot harder to get caught.

So, whether Texans cast their ballots on paper or in the ether this year, I’m not wholly convinced that it will make much difference. Remember that it’s just as possible to steal an election with paper ballots as it is electronically.

Anyway, hats off to Vote Rescue for holding our County Clerk’s feet to the fire on this issue. Hell, we just like to see Dana DeBeauvoir’s pretty little pedicured toes sweat a little…

…and remember, Dana…We ARE watching you!!!!!

AUSTIN PLANS REVIEW OF HART INTERCIVIC MACHINES IN LIGHT OF FEDERAL FRAUD LAWSUIT

Travis County ClerkDana DeBeauvoir said she is committed to a point-by-point review of the county’s eSlate machines, in the wake of a federal whistle-blower’s lawsuit alleging that Hart InterCivic overpromised and underdelivered on the machines.

The organization Vote Rescue was on hand at Tuesday’s Commissioners Court meeting to provide copies of Hart technician William Singer’s lawsuit, which alleges that Hart stretched reports of the performance of the eSlate in Ohio in order to secure its share of the $4 billion set aside in the Help America Vote Act.

DeBeauvoir said she’s not yet willing to pull the plug on the machines but would if she found significant problems in light of the lawsuit’s allegations. Vote Rescue would prefer the county return its machines and choose to count ballots by hand.

From Friday’s Austin Chronicle

More on this from Brad Blog | Singer’s futile July 2004 efforts, attempting to notify the Secretaries of State in both Texas and Ohio, were originally reported in exclusive detail by The BRAD BLOG in March of 2006.

Following discussions we had with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after our report, he and his radio co-host, Florida attorney Mike Papantonio, filed a federal qui tam whistleblower suit on behalf of Singer.

The complaint charges fraud and other violations of the False Claims Act by Hart, including allegations the company failed to test its products properly, and frequently at all; withheld information from prospective clients about the potential loss of votes in its voting systems; dummied-up machines, reports, and test results presented to clients in sales presentations; and much more in an attempt to win state and county contracts and the federal money that came with them…

Despite having some direct involvement in the case from the beginning, The BRAD BLOG has been unable to report any details on it for going on two years — unable to offer the names of the plaintiff or defendant in the case — since originally reporting that it had been filed in federal court, due to the fact that it was under seal, waiting for the U.S. Attorney General to decide whether the DoJ would join the suit or not.

Singer’s suit is the fraud case which originally made waves when it was first filed two years ago, with the aid of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Florida attorney Mike Papantonio, until it then went “underground” due to the legally mandated seal disallowing the plaintiff and his attorneys from offering any specific details to the public.

As AP reported recently, the seal on that federal qui tam (fraud, false claims) complaint, brought on behalf of the United States by Singer against Hart, one of the big four American voting machines companies, has now been lifted, and the case may finally proceed as originally filed.

• The complaint may be downloaded here [PDF, 45 pages].

STOP THEM BEFORE THEY DO IT AGAIN!

And don’t forget that RFK Jr. and Greg Palast have launched a new investigation into allegations of election fraud in the 2008 election. Right now, they need your help exposing this corruption! Get the story here.

(To learn more about VoteRescue’s fight in Texas, check out a recent radio broadcast which delves into this and one of the other lawsuits against the Texas Secretary of State’s office and the Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir filed in June 2006 by David Van Os, former candidate for Texas Attorney General; Nelson Linder, President of the NAACP in Austin; the NAACP; and citizen Sonya Sontana, in an attempt to stop the use of the Hart InterCivic E-Slate machines in Travis County.

The lawsuit alleges that various sections of the Texas Election Code and Texas State Constitution have been violated by the SoS’ approval of the Hart Intercivic e-Slate (as well as, the Hart E-Scan and the Diebold and ES&S DREs and scanner systems although they are not a part of this lawsuit) for use by Texas voters.

The show can be heard in the Austin area at 90.1 FM; and is archived online at www.wtprn.com (“We the People Radio Network”).
